As a multi-disciplined artist with a penchant for mixing my media, I experience great freedom. Depending on the materials and ideas that inspire me at the time, my style can vary from realism to expressionism.
The two constants in my creations are layered colours and either real or implied textures. During an intensive year of creating art, I promised myself I would follow through if I ever wondered: "what would happen if...?" Keeping this promise has allowed me to see possibilities in unexpected places and live in the artistic moment. I was first inspired to experiment with underpainting after seeing Madeline Clear's work showing different coloured paints under her pastel strokes. The game changer for my underpainting was experimenting with edicol dye, encouraging a looser style free of the perfectionism I often struggled with. |
