Marie Mitchell is driven by an innate love of the texture and tactile nature of textiles. She describes her work as 'painting with fabric and thread'. Combining unique fabrics with a variety of upcycled materials, the inspiration for her work revolves around a lifelong passion for the natural environment. Delicately woven within each work is a dialogue between ideas, materials, and process.
Marie's desire to give back to the community is evident in her collaboration with local conservation groups by celebrating their achievements and sharing their messaging through her art. She believes art can touch people in ways scientific data cannot. Her work is intended to generate awareness and appreciation for the natural world, while exploring its fragility and our role as caretakers for future generations. She wants her work to inspire the viewer to think alternatively, speak out and join others in collective action to foster change. |
